Spring Massage Update and Music News!

I hope this note finds you enjoying all the sunshine after such a wet winter! I have a few updates to share with you.

As many of you know, I’ve been taking a biology class at Laney College. This has been in part for fun, and in part because it is the prerequisite for the cadaver anatomy class I’m hoping to take. Due to my class schedule, I haven’t been available on Thursdays at all or on Tuesdays until 2 p.m. My business hours are changing again as the spring semester concludes. I will be available for massage bookings on Monday and Wednesday 10-8, and Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 10-6, starting in June. I’ll give you the Fall schedule once I have signed up for the next semester’s classes.

I also wanted to update you on my music career. Three and a half years ago I joined a band called Midtown Social. We’re a 9 piece soul band and we’re putting out our first full length album in a few weeks (we have two EP’s out you can already listen to on iTunes or Spotify). We’re proud to announce that we’ll be celebrating the album release with a big show on April 15th at the Mezzanine! I know that’s close, but I’d love to see you all and your friends there. For ticket information, click here. To RSVP on Facebook, click here.

I won’t be posting about the band much on this list. In fact, this is the first time I’ve shared much of that information at all here . If you’d like to be kept in the loop about future Midtown Social antics, send me a message and I’ll add you to my performance email list. :)

Lastly, I wanted to tell you about a fundraiser I did through my massage business due to our tumultuous political climate. For the month of February I gave $15 from every full priced massage to some great nonprofits, letting clients pick from a list where their chunk went. Some generous folks matched donations, and others matched those, so ultimately we raised $2,350 to some great causes! That was a success beyond my wildest hopes, so I will likely do something like that again in the future.

That’s all for now. Please let me know if you’d like to schedule some table time, and I hope to see you all soon.

Be Well,
– whit

bodywork for the resistance

As a act of solidarity in our trying times I’m going to be donating $15 from every full priced session to one of the following organizations for the month of February. When you come in for your session you can pick which organization gets your portion of the donation.
As a bonus a friend has promised to match these donations dollar for dollar!

These are the organizations that will benefit:
TGJIP – TGI Justice Project
CJJC – Causa Justa//Just Cause
AROC – Arab Resource and Organizing Center
BLM – Black Lives Matter
NRDC – Natural Resource Defence Counsil
Two Spirit Nation at Standing Rock – Water Defenders
IRAP – International Refugee assistance project
SURJ – Standing Up for Racial Justice
Whit’s Pick – you can choose to let me pick at the end of the month.

Take care of yourself while supporting organizations that take care of vulnerable folks.

Fall Massage Update 2016

I hope this note finds you well. It’s been two years since I’ve sent out an update, so there’s a lot to catch up on!

As some of you know, about two years ago I took some time off from my massage business due to a wrist injury. What was supposed to be two, maybe three months turned into most of a year followed by a very slow return. It’s been a challenging process; one that has given me a lot of empathy for the struggles my clients have with chronic injuries as well as deepening appreciation for the work of my peers! I’m excited to be able to finally say that I’m taking clients and open to scheduling. I missed this work and it feels good to be back.

Always looking for ways to improve my massage skills, I used some of this down time to take classes and I’m proud to announce that I’m now certified at Level III Neurokinetic Therapy. I also took a masters course in Advance Muscle Testing and Palpation. These trainings put me in an even better position to help clients recover from injuries and chronic pain.

I wanted to give you guys a heads up that starting in October my rates will go up to $90 for an hour and $125 for an hour and a half for new clients. Current clients will have a grace period till the end of the year at the old rate ($80 and $110). This will also affect my travel rates and sliding scale. If you have any questions, let me know.

My hours as they stand are Monday and Wednesday, 10-8,Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 10-6. Dependent on interest, I may add one Saturday or Sunday a month to accommodate clients who can never get in on my regular hours. Let me know if that’s something that would interest you and I’ll let you all know if and when that schedule becomes available.

Thank you for your continued business and I look forward to seeing you on the table soon!

Be Well,
Whitney Moses, CMT

Ps If you haven’t yet, I’d appreciate if you would add your review on my page on Yelp.com

Something serious to talk about and celebrate.

May 27, 2011 marks the 20th anniversary of my Father’s death from AIDs. While participating in walk-a-thons and dance-a-thons to raise awareness and funds for HIV/AIDS was a huge part of my youth, it has taken a back seat as the years have passed.I’ve been on the lookout for a way to commemorate his life and passing and I think I’ve found just the right thing. I’m excited to let you know that this June I’ll be a roadie for the 10th annual AIDS/LifeCycle. The ALC is a 7 day bicycle trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles that raises very necessary funds for AIDS research and resources in both metropolitan areas.  I’ll be joining the hundreds of other roadies that make this event possible for the thousands that take the 545 mile trek. I would love your financial support to help insure this a huge success!

The funds raised by this ride help the LA Gay and Lesbian Center and the San Francisco AIDS foundation do life saving work.  In San Francisco alone, there will be an estimated 1000 new cases of HIV this year. In the last several years AIDS research and AIDS services have been drastically cut all over the country and the Bay Area has been no exception. Help is still needed, and events like this are as crucial as ever in making sure that help is still available.

Everyone I know who’s ridden or roadied says participating is a life changing event.  I imagine that this being the events 10th year makes that likely to be truer than ever.  They’ve already had to close registration for both roadies and riders earlier than ever before in the history of the ride.

While the work I’ll be doing will be valuable (I’ll be on the massage team) and while I’ll be volunteering my time, it still won’t be free.  In order to have me on their team it will cost ALC money for food, transportation, etc. That being said, I’ve set my goal to raise $2,000, so that I’m not only cost neutral, but actually contributing to the financial gain for these organizations. Will you help make that happen? Even $15 will get me closer to my goal. Please spread the word and help me make a difference.

Spring 2010 Massage Update

I hope this note finds you well and that you’re finding bits of spring through all this rain. I’ve got a couple important things to share including a rate change and some travel dates, so thanks for taking the time to read this.

SFGate is running a polling contest for their Best of the Bay list and I’ve been nominated for the massage category! To vote, follow this link and click Cast Vote. You’ll need to do a quick registration with their site, but it’s easy to opt to not get any spam from them.

Back in January there was a lovely article written about my work in the examiner. You can read the whole piece here. I want to give a big thank you to Lauren Byrne for taking the time to write me up.

Currently my rates are $80 for an hour and a $100 for an hour and a half. Starting in May the hour and a half rate is going up to $110. This will also effect my travel rates. If you have any questions about this, please let me know.

I also want to give you all a heads up about some travel dates that are coming up. In June I will be away from about the 8th to the 15th, and late in the summer I’ll be gone from about August 14th to September 12th. If you would like a referral to another massage therapist you can see while I’m away, just let me know and I’ll pass along info for someone who I think will be a good fit for you.

Lastly, I wanted to let you all know about an exciting development in my practice. As of about 2 months ago I have begun the process and training of getting certified as a doula. Ever since I got certified in pregnancy massage last year I’ve felt a strong desire to get closer to birth work and this is my first major step toward it. The training is going very well, and it won’ be long before I’m able to start taking on expecting mommas as clients. There will come a time when this work will impact the shape of my massage practice, and I’ll be sure to write about that when I have a better since of when and what that impact will be.

And as always, if you haven’t yet, feel free to add your review to my page on Yelp.com.

Be Well,

Whitney Moses, CMT

Mid-Summer Massage Update!

Greetings Folks,

I hope this note finds you well and enjoying the long warm summer days. 2009 has been a busy year so far, and I wanted to share some of what’s been going on and what’s to come.

Vote for me for Best Massage of the Bay!

The SF Guardian is holding its Best of the Bay Reader’s Poll and this year I’m hoping to win for best massage! Voting closes tomorrow, June 30th, so please take a moment to vote.

You don’t have to register or enter your email or anything — it couldn’t be easier.

BodyWorker Certification

After over a thousand hours of training at the Institute of Conscious BodyWork, I’m proud to say that I’m now in the paperwork stage of getting my Master BodyWorker Certification. It’s been a long road and I’ve learned a lot from the wonderful folks up there. Just in this last year I’ve gotten certified in pregnancy massage, as well as taken classes in functional anatomy and scoliosis. Sadly, the school will be closing its doors at the end of this year, so if you’ve ever been curious to check out some classes there, now’ the time!

Injury and recovery

Around February I got into a minor car accident that left me with some pretty bad whiplash. I was pretty incapacitated for a while, but thanks to the wonderful bodywork of David Weinstock, acupuncture and cranio-sacral of Renee Hahn, chiropractic of Dr Dan Armstrong, and personal training of Cera Byer, I was able to get back to working full time in about 2 months. As much as I was frustrated with my circumstance, the whole experience has definitely renewed my appreciation for the value of this work, as well as bolstered my sympathy for the worry and fear that my clients may experience over their injuries. I am grateful to do what I do and very glad to be back at it.

August Schedule

For the first time in years I am not going to the east coast in the middle of the summer. Instead I will be taking a vacation at the end of August from the 21st to the 31st. So, if you want to book something in August, make sure you do so before then.

Odds and ends

Lastly, if you haven’t yet, feel free to add your review to my page on Yelp.com.

Be Well,

– Whitney Moses

Summer Massage Update

I hope this note finds you well and refreshed from the last few months. After a summer busy with travel I have returned to the bay area and will be available for appointments starting immediately. My hours for my office at Ellie Herman Pilates in San Francisco have not been set yet but will be available soon.

My rates will be the same – $80/hr and $100/1.5hr in Oakland, $85/hr and $105/1.5 hr in SF, and out-calls will vary depending on details.

I also wanted to let you know that starting this September I will begin a one year training program through California Pacific Medical Center’s integrative medicine program. The IHH is considered one of the top hospital massage training programs in the country and I’m excited to add their teachings to my tool belt.

Also, I just wanted to thank you again for the wonderful support you’ve given me in helping spread the word about my practice. Telling your friends and family about my work is the best thing you can do to help me expand. If you haven’t had a chance yet, I’d love if you could add a few words to my reviews on Yelp.com – you can do so for either my Oakland office or my San Francisco office.

I hope you all are enjoying your summer and I look forward to seeing you soon.
